Chimney Town is an industrial town cloaked with what seems like the world record amount of chimneys; cloaking the sky with black smoke. In “Poupelle of Chimney Town,” Lubicchi (voiced by Antonio Raul Corbo in the English version of the film) believes that there’s a bigger world out there, as his father, Bruno (Stephen Root), tells grand stories that there are stars beyond that black smoke.

One Halloween night, Lubicchi meets the titular Poupelle, a man made of garbage who many run away from when he can’t take off his Halloween costume, as they think he’s a monster. However, Lubicchi befriends him; and together, they set out to discover what’s beyond the smoke, as Lubicchi’s taught the power of friendship.

For the film, which recently played as part of the “Animation is Film” festival in Los Angeles, I was able to speak with two of the voice actors in the film. I spoke with Antonio Raul Corbo, who voices Lubicchi, as well as Misty Lee, who plays the character of Lola as Lubicchi’s mother.

In the conversation, we talk about the voice work and the process and if they were inspired by the original Japanese voices. We also talk about some interesting aspects of their careers so far, hanging out on the red carpet, their favourite moments from the film and some of the themes they took away from the film. Daniel is a lover of cinema and looks at the cast, characters, and how well a movie executes the genre. Daniel also looks at the plot and his level of enjoyment. He tries to be fair to a movie’s audience, even if a particular film isn’t his cup of tea. In addition to writing for "The Movie Buff," Daniel has been writing theatrical reviews for his own blog at “Filmcraziest.com."
