From “Jhund” and “Super 30” to “Hichki,” “Krantijyoti Vidyalay Marathi Madyham” and “Sitaare Zameen Par,” each film offers a different perspective on the impact of a teacher and the transformative power of education.

    1. ‘Jhund’ (2002; Dir. Nagraj Manjule)

    What happens when a teacher sees potential where others see only limitations? “Jhund,” led by Amitabh Bachchan, follows Vijay Barse, a professor who brings together children from the streets and introduces them to football. As he helps them find discipline, confidence and a sense of purpose, the film shows how one person’s belief can change the lives of many. It is a powerful story about giving young people a chance to dream bigger.

    2. ‘Super 30’ (2019; Dir. Vikas Bahl)

    “Super 30,” starring Hrithik Roshan, tells the inspiring story of mathematician Anand Kumar, who takes on the challenge of helping talented students from underprivileged backgrounds prepare for the IIT entrance exams. Despite facing several obstacles, he creates a special coaching programme for 30 students and works tirelessly to help them succeed. The film celebrates the dedication of a teacher who believes that education can open doors to a better future.

    3. ‘Hichki’ (2018; Dir. Sidharth P Malhotra)

    Sometimes, the best teachers are those who understand what it feels like to be different. “Hichki,” featuring Rani Mukerji in the lead, follows Naina Mathur, a teacher with Tourette syndrome, who takes up the challenge of teaching a class of students who are often underestimated. By believing in her students and encouraging them to believe in themselves, Naina proves that every child has the potential to succeed when given the right support.

    Education can be a powerful force for change, and “Krantijyoti Vidyalay Marathi Madhyam,” featuring Prajakta Koli and Amey Wagh, brings this idea to the forefront. The film explores the challenges faced by a Marathi-medium school and the efforts made to protect the value of education in the face of changing times. Through its story of teachers, students and the school community, the film celebrates the importance of providing children with the opportunity to learn and grow.

    A teacher’s role is not always about teaching a subject; sometimes, it is about helping students see their own strengths. “Sitaare Zameen Par,” starring Aamir Khan and Genelia Deshmukh, follows a basketball coach who is assigned to train a team of players with intellectual disabilities. What begins as a challenge gradually becomes a journey of learning, friendship and personal growth. The film highlights how students can teach their teachers just as much as teachers can teach their students.
