The 97th Academy Awards—slated to be held on March 2, 2025 at 7:00 PM EST—announced their full list of Oscar nominations this morning. As usual, there were some expected results and some surprises, as the Academy—and Hollywood—attempt to celebrate cinema’s accomplishments amidst the Los Angeles wildfires, creating a shadow that looms over the city.
Of note in the nominations was Director Jacques Audiard’s “Emilia Pérez,” which led the pack with 13 total nominations. According to CBS News, this was just one nomination short of tying record-holders “Titanic,” “All About Eve,” and “La La Land,” which all had 14 nominations each.
There were some other standouts, such as Adrien Brody for “The Brutalist,” Brady Corbett’s post-World War II period epic, and Cynthia Erivo for “Wicked” and, unsurprisingly Demi Moore for the body horror phenomenon “The Substance.”
