At The Movie Buff, we are a proponent of independent films. Recently we were lucky enough to have a conversation with the crew of “Skipping Stones,” an independent feature. We speak to S.J. Creazzo, the film’s director, as well as two of the film’s principal actors, Nathaniel Ansbach and Gabrielle Kalomiris.
If you missed our review, “Skipping Stones” is a good indie feature, focusing on a small town, a tragedy that lined its past, and its effect on young David (Ansbach) as he struggles to make sense out of the events. “Skipping Stones” is a slow-moving film that centers on David as he navigates through a visit back to his hometown and touches base with his brother (Michael Spellman) and the sister of his deceased friend, Amanda (Kalomiris). The film also stars Patricia Charbonneau as David’s mother and veteran actor Michael Ironside as his father.
The Interview
Talking to S.J., Nathaniel, and Gabrielle was an experience. It was a chance to get to know the inner-workings of this emotional film, as well as the creative processes that went into making it. We speak to S.J. about some of the filming decisions (“Skipping Stones” was filmed in the Catskill region of New York State, close to where I live), as well as what went into writing some of the film’s more trying scenes.
We also discuss some of the film’s key sequences and what went into them. Nathaniel and Gabrielle also share how they prepared for some of the film’s tougher parts. Gabrielle talks about how she prepared for a ballet dancing sequence, and Nathaniel speaks about what parts of himself he brought into the role of David.
