“The Peculiar Pair,” a short film serving as a series pilot is now available to watch on YouTube, according to one of its lead actresses, Emma Turner. The pilot, at 20 minutes, has had its first Laurel, as well as an official selection with an honorable mention.
Turner is hoping to get the word out on the project, as the bigger the audience for the pilot the better the hopes of getting the short/pilot the recognition it deserves. Their goal is to have the short produced and shown to the world in the form of a comedy series.
The Story
“The Peculiar Pair” is described by the production team as about “Two mismatched women over 40 who meet and the development of their relationship. Waynetta lives alone in Didsbury, Manchester in a flat left to her by her late Nan; she suffers from agoraphobia and doesn’t ever go into the outside world as it terrifies her. Joanie is the opposite, she’s worldly, out of yet another terrible relationship and now homeless. This story promises a tale that everyone over the age of 18 can relate to about mental health, homelessness, relationships, sexuality, and our need to not live this life alone. English, northern humor is cleverly used to broach these subjects in a non threatening way.”
The character or Waynetta is played by actress Emma Turner, while the character of Joanie is played by Anna Jaskolka. Jaskolka also serves as the pilot’s producer.

From Festival to Screen
According to Turner, “The Peculiar Pair” has just been entered into the festival circuit as a short film, but stresses that “TPP” is intended as a pilot for a comedy sitcom. Their plan is to pitch the show to production companies once it completes its circuit run.
But they need your help! Turner and company ask that interested persons please watch the pilot and/or trailer and help generate interest in the project. In addition to being a dysfunctional buddy comedy, the British series looks to smartly comment on friendship, loss, and lockdown life, centering on themes of isolation.
