Filmmaker Steve Blackwood, creator of “Sweeps Week” and the soulful “Peabrain” is announcing completion of a new project, the short film “Family Game Night.” The film, at 19 minutes, has just wrapped production and looks forward in the future to festival showings.
The log-line for the movie is as follows: Semi-famous soap actor Dan Whitehall visits his nutty, narcissistic, semi-addicted, Detroit family one year after the passing of his father (Phil Whitehall). The ostensible narrator is Phil, who is “ghosting’” this particular Christmas-time game night (his Hell? His Limbo?). The “Hell” for alcoholic Phil is that he can’t drink. Ever. Ultimately, Phil finds out the story he’s narrating is also about him and the family wreckage he left.

Steve Blackwood has compared the film to Neil Simon meets “The Father.” “Family Game Night” is a dialogue-driven a story about a dysfunctional family, a failing father with alcoholic dementia (even in the after-life), and a son who finally stands up to him.
