Press Release—Now streaming on Paramount + and Prime Video, “Ride” is an independent crime/drama written by Jake Allyn and Josh Plasse, and directed by Allyn. The film is set in Stephenville, TX—a real location—and uses the sport of bull riding to help raise money for a family’s young daughter to receive treatment at a better cancer hospital.

Focusing on the sport of Rodeo, Allyn mentioned in an interview with Texas Standard the story of “Ride” was something that had been inside of him for a long time, waiting to come out. Allyn also added he’s a Dallas native, and “Ride” was his directorial debut.

    Standout Performances

“Ride” has been received well by critics. It earned a 72% score on Rotten Tomatoes and even a 3 star review by Marya E. Gates of RogerEbert.com, per Wikipedia. Additionally, Joe Leyden of Variety noted that Allyn’s debut also had several standout performances, who felt comfortable and credible in both the Rodeo scenes and the crime scenes. This is high praise. From my time spent reviewing Texas filmmaker Brett Bentman’s films—who also excelled in this—set design and authenticity on indie films can be hard with a scant budget.

In addition to co-writing and directing, Allyn also plays ‘Peter’ in the film. He’s backed by an extensive cast, featuring C. Thomas Howell, Forrie J. Smith, co-writer Josh Plasse, Walter J. Buck, Liz Atwater, Annabelle Gish, Zia Carlock, and Rome Carlock. Of note, Joe Leyden noted in his review that Smith and Howell were exemplary and featured much verisimilitude.

For more information about “Ride,” you can check out the film’s IMDb page here. You can watch the film’s trailer in the window below. If you like Rodeo movies, sports movies, or just a good crime/drama, the film should appeal to your tastes. It features a fearless cowboy spirit. With that said, if the sports/betting mood should take over, you can head over to Online Casinos in Texas to try that same bold attitude in high-stakes games on their platform.
