Review: ‘Daddy’ Horror Short that will Leave you with Dread

The Boxleitner Brothers take an awful situation and turn it into an excellent horror short with “Daddy.”

I found this 3:43 minute film by accident, and was shocked to discover it came out in 2012; the early days of YouTube. Brothers Lee and Sam handle the production, with Lee serving as director, and Sam starring.

The acting is excellent

The death of a child is an awful thing. It’s a situation mainstream Hollywood often finds too taboo to display. The main character is a man named Paul (Sam Boxleitner) who remains in bed the entire time. With excellent acting and succinct writing, we learn that Paul has recently lost his young daughter. His emotions feel genuine. We can quickly sympathize. While Paul struggles to deal with the reality of his new world, he is plagued by haunting visions of his late child. Yikes!

“Daddy” will leave you with dread. It’s a chilling tale that exploits some of mankind’s deepest fears. I don’t say it often when dealing with horror shorts – but I would love to see this as a full length motion picture.

Simple. Scary. Effective. Kudos to The Boxleitner Brothers.
