“CODA,” is one of those great dramas that can make you laugh and then cry. It’s about a high school senior named Ruby (Emilia Jones), the only family member in a non-hearing family, or, a Child of Deaf Adults.

In the first 10 minutes of the film, it’s fully established how much her family members – mother Jackie (Marlee Matlin), father Frank (Troy Kotsur), brother Leo (Daniel Durant) – rely on her and how dependent they are on her for daily tasks.

Now, in her senior year as she wants to study at Berkeley for music, under the guidance of choir teacher Bernardo Villalobos (Eugenio Derbez), so she’s caught in between the decision of chasing her dreams or staying behind and helping her family as their fishing business is going under new changes.

For The Movie Buff, Daniel Prinn was able to speak with the film’s cinematographer, Paula Huidobro, for her work on “CODA.” In their discussion, they talk about what drew Paula to becoming a cinematographer, the bonds she creates with directors, and the shot listing days being a bit of a family affair. She also talks about her favourite moments to film and the most challenging ones, and much more. You can find that conversation directly below on our YouTube channel:

“CODA” is now available to watch on Apple TV+.
