In “Agnes,” a young nun, the titular Agnes, has a sudden personality change, spewing blasphemy and the like. It’s thought to be demonic possession, which prompts an investigation by the Church. This leads to two priests investigating the convent, further leading to a story of possession and crises of faith. This is the case for the two priests, but especially for Agnes’ best friend Mary, played by Molly C. Quinn.
At this year’s Tribeca Film Festival, I had the pleasure to speak with actress and executive producer Molly C. Quinn, as well as director and co-writer Mickey Reece about their new film, which premiered as part of the Tribeca Online Premieres at this year’s festival on June 12.
In the conversation, we touch on Molly preparing for her character of Mary. We also chat about what made her come on board as an executive producer. As well, we spoke about creating the distinct nuns in the film, the “Renaissance paintings” of the nuns doing different things and boom boxes. We also talked about Mickey’s wheelchair from his previous films, collaborating with new people and being able to make a project with a larger budget than he usually works with. There’s more, too.
