Without making use of any dialogues, “Canvas” beautifully narrates the story of an old, disabled man, now living in the solitary confines of his life, years after having lost his wife. He battles the memories of his past by looking at a painting of his wife that he drew; i.e., the canvas, which was the last time he held the paintbrush. His young granddaughter visits him one day, eventually sparking in him a wave of inspiration to heal from the past hurt and embrace the present moment. As he fights his way to make peace with reality, he finally becomes ready to paint the canvas of life, again.
The short film is a symbol of love amid despair and acceptance amid unsettling life experiences.
