Irish actor Robbie Walsh is getting recognized of late for his role as Kane in the Amazon Prime original, “Suga: Ride or Die” TV series. His character was described by Eyes on Hollywood as a “volatile yet deeply human antagonist,” and a “hauntingly restrained performance.” The series launched on September 4, 2025.
It’s good to see Walsh getting recognition, well known to our platform from his indie directorial/starring films such as “Eden” (2016) and “The Letters” (2022), the latter of which won an award on our site for ‘Best Director.’ The film was about the 2018-present CervicalCheck scandal, which mislead women about their cervical cancer diagnoses. Walsh wrote and directed both films. In addition, Walsh also wrote and directed the film “S.P.L.I.T.,” a rockumentary-style film centering on two hitmen.
Kane’s Power Lies in Stillness
“The Letters” is currently available on Prime, while “S.P.L.I.T.” is available on Tubi.
“Suga: Ride or Die” focuses on a motorcycle gang, with Gijs Naber playing the title character. Naber’s Sander ‘Suga’ Zoeteman—from the clips available—looks the part of a vociferous, mountainous force. Yet Walsh’s ‘Kane’ is more the quiet, immovable type. From his interview with Eyes on Hollywood, Walsh stated that he based his character off real Irish gangland types (which will remain nameless) and spoke about transforming into Kane meant “dropping the softness” and “refusing to ask for sympathy,” yet noting that the quiet parts—namely how Kane carries himself—are what make the character.
